More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (that's the actual title of an actual book...how do I know? I read them as a child because I was weird and kind of gothic.)

Hey guys.
So I have some embarrassing stories to tell.
The first few happened in Psych yesterday (naturally). So I walked in and I had my headphones in, and the substitute (who is pretty awesome; this just happened to be an awkward moment) who is standing at her desk behind a computer screen says “She looks so young and intimidated.”
Side track: I look like I’m 12, so I’m used to people saying I’m look young. Which is why I thought she was talking about me.
So I turned around and said kinda defensively “are you talking about me?”
Because I just assumed that because she said that right as I walked in the room, she was referring to me.
And she looked at me, completely bewildered, and says “No…I was talking about this video I’m watching.”
And I turned bright red and said “Oh…sorry. Wow. That’s embarrassing.” And everyone laughed (it wasn’t supposed to be funny) and I sat down. (In the isolation seat)
So THEN I sit down and reflect on my latest embarrassment when BAM- my notebook falls off of my desk and my papers spill everywhere.
And literally, everyone just stared.
So I cried and packed up and went back to my dorm room thought about how much I suck at life.
Just kidding. I picked up the damn notebook and literally kept my head down the rest of class.

Story 2:
I was at the gym with my dear friend Annie (yep that’s right, I’m one of those cool sporty girls that goes to the gym. Actually I just started like last week.) and we were on the elliptical. And I saw this one person that I kind of know on an elliptical in the distance. Now, if you knew the story, you would know that it’s a big deal whenever I see this person on campus.
So what did I do? I took a picture, naturally. I guess I just assumed that everyone around me was so into their workouts that they wouldn’t notice what I was doing.
Wrong.
Annie looks at me and says, “What are you DOING?! There are people everywhere, and they can all see you.”
So then I started laughing really hard but I also died a little inside because I had become “that girl” that takes pictures of people she kind of knows when she sees them on the elliptical at the gym.

Okay, next story.
I was pomping with two girls from my pledge class and this guy starts pomping with us. And you know we’re just having a normal conversation, with the normal questions and stuff.
So someone asked him where he was from, and he said “Owasso.” So I got really excited because I know a lot of awesome people from there.
But, because I got excited, my words weren’t completely thought out before they left my mouth. And this is what I said verbatim: “Oh! So did you go to Owasso…like, the school?”
And he just stared for a good ten seconds.  And I wanted to cry. I can’t even try to explain this one away because I’m pretty sure that if someone says they’re from Owasso, there’s about a 99% chance that they  also went to Owasso the school, and that if you are not referring to Owasso the town then it’s pretty damn obvious that you’re referring to Owasso the school.  That’s like asking someone who lives in Orlando if they’ve ever been to Disneyworld…like, the resort.
Damn.
Needless to say, I did not meet the love of my life while pomping last night.

Next story:
This man came up to me on the street and said, “Hey! You want a free tattoo? It’s for free!”
So I said “Sure.”
Just kidding. That actually didn’t happen to me.

Have a great Tuesday, lovely friends. BYE.

"I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn, and we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them, and we help them in return. Well, I don't know if I believe that's true, but I know I'm who I am today, because I knew you."

Today's reflection: For Good.

Hahaha just kidding.

Today's actual reflection: rude people.

So, the other day I did awkward moments. Today, I'm doing rude people moments.

#1: This girl with pneumonia was walking behind me. How did I know she had pneumonia? SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT IT. LOUDLY. First of all, if you have pneumonia, why are you outside on a chilly fall day? (If you're from Africa, why are you white?) Second of all, if you have pneumonia, why are you talking and walking with someone who you could easily spread it to? Third of all, if you have pneumonia, why are you outside on a chilly fall day talking to your friend about how you have pneumonia and how its not getting better? WHY. WHY.
Note to the world: if you're sick, it is common courtesy to stay away from others and not spread your germs by being outside and around people.

That's actually the only rude moment I can think of but I'm pretty sure its the epitome of rude. If a pneumonia epidemic breaks out on campus, I know who to blame.

Other reflection:
Natural sexyness. Now, I know this is a tad risque buts its fine. No one needs to worry. So, I went to Zumba the other day and I noticed something. There was a very very distinct divide between the sexy people and the non-sexy people. Its okay for me to say this because I happen to be part of the latter. Basically: I, Andrea Leah Powers, am not sexy. And that's okay. I can't dance sexily (just ask my dearest friends about "the choppy") and I can't laugh sexily and I can't chew sexily. I'm not sure what would constitute chewing sexily anyway but if there was a way I would not be able to pull it off.

I have a theory. Sexiness is a heretical trait. (Good ol' nature vs nurtue). Sexiness is all nature; it is not something you can learn. How do I know this? I've tried. I simply can't be sexy. End of theory.

BUT, the point is, that's okay. I have a lot of other great qualities, and so do you, my blog readers. Whether or not you are naturally sexy or naturally anything at all, you are perfect. There's a workout song that goes, "you are enough, you are exactly where you need to be." and its true. So if you see someone dancing Zumba and you think "WOW, I wish I could move my hips in such fashion!" ...Don't. Because you are wonderful no matter what, okay? Okay.

Trivia question:

What movie is this quote from: "I'm glad he's single, cause I'm gonna climb that like a tree."
Ten points if you tweet me with the correct answer (everyone wants ten points). PS- its pretty obvious.

Yep, this happened.

Hey guys. Its about 9:54 AM on this lovely Wednesday. It is cold outside.

I just have a quick story to tell, then maybe a reflection will come later today since I didn't post yesterday.

Yesterday was quite a day. The most significant part of it, however, occurred around 11: 15 pm. I was with my big-
Interruption: my big. Yes. We are long lost soul mates. Ask anyone. Her name is Claire. Yesterday she bought me a build-a-bear and she frequently changes the lyrics of love songs to something about her little (me). Her boyfriend makes me call him Papa Bear. Our family is so unbelievably perfect, its unbelievable.

So, I was with her and we were chalking (which is where you kind of advertise something by writing it in chalk on the sidewalk on campus) and we stopped in front of a certain fraternity house on a certain busy street.

Well, I was being a goofball and repeatedly doing the Bend and Snap (from Legally Blonde) when a car slowed down kind of by the sidewalk. Naturally I assumed it was a cute boy so entranced by my bend and snap that he was pulling over to ask me for my number (because that happens). But, in fact, it was a police officer.

So, he pulls over and he just kind of stares. And there I am, halfway between bend and snap. And HE. DOESN'T. SAY. ANYTHING. I mean, isn't he supposed to say "Stop in the name of the law" or some shit?

Well, he didn't.

So, my voice gets unnaturally high (even for me) and I smiled at him and said in the most awkward way possible, "Heeeeeeeey."
The conversation went as follows:
Him: "Are you okay?"
Me: "Oh, I'm fine. We're just chalking, you know..."
Him: "Okay.........." *drives away*

Then Claire starts cracking up and I crawled into a little ball of awkwardness and humiliation and seriously considered crying.

Moral of the story: Do not do the Bend and Snap on the sidewalk in the Greek neighborhood when there are cars around. They are not cute college boys who want your number.
The end.

Look at me and my one awesome follower. (Love you Shelby)

Day Two.

Today's topic of discussion: awkward moments.
We've all seen those obnoxious "that awkward moment when" tweets. Actually, they aren't obnoxious. I'm just bitter because I never think of funny ones.
Anyway, if I, Andrea Leah Powers, were to try and count the number of awkward moments I have a day, I...couldn't. Simple as that.

Okay- awkward moment number one. I was walking to class and I saw a girl that I knew so I yelled her name really loud. It was definitely her, but she chose to ignore me. So then I looked like an idiot.
Awkward moment number 2: our teacher gave us five minutes to figure out ten chords. In that five minutes, I figured out one. (I still have to do "Every good boy does fine" and "all cows eat grass," so that explains that.)

Awkward moment number 3: We had a guest speaker in psych and we were talking about something (I honestly don't remember what) and she asked if anyone was hungry. Well it just so happens I was thinking about having a large plate of nachos at that moment, so I raised my hand. She asked me what I was hungry for. I realized at that moment that when she asked if anyone was hungry, she didn't really expect anyone to respond. So, realizing this I said, and this is verbatim, "Umm..I dunno. Maybe like some chips." BECAUSE I WAS THINKING NACHOS = TORTILLA CHIPS. Nope, apparently this was a weird response the whole class laughed at me. The people in my class probably think I'm weird enough already since I got there late on the first day and was assigned the isolation seat at the back of the room on the far side (like the isolation cabin in the parent trap...only I don't have a long lost twin to share peanut butter and oreos with) and thus I don't say much.

Side note: I am excluding the 45893485 awkward moments I have that involve walking across campus each day, like passing people who are too slow or accidentally running into bike riders, or even giving couples dirty looks (not on purpose). But seriously, can't you just do your PDA in private? I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of public displays of affection, but just because the phrase exists doesn't mean you have to follow through with it. Seriously. Get a room. Just because some of us won't settle for any old male specimen doesn't mean you have to rub it in that you did. Merry Christmas.

Awkward moment number 4: Awkward eye contact with a girl who rushed me, but I didn't go to that house on Bid Day. Enough said.

Awkward moment number 5: I was coming home from Studio Voice maybe 45 minutes ago. That's a singing class, so naturally I was singing as I opened the outside door to the stairs. Little did I know a very hot guy was opening the same door from the other side to my obnoxiously loud singing. Well, since I'm pretty much the epitome of coy, I burst out laughing, said sorry, and proceeded to book it up the stairs to my room.

Awkward moment number 6: getting super frustrated because literally no one was texting me back, then realizing my phone was somehow on airplane mode.

Awkward moment number 7: I went to my advisor's office (one that I hadn't met before) and I guess he shares this office with several other advisors. So there I was in the waiting area, and this one advisor comes out and lemme tell ya, he is FINE. So I smile at him and expect him to call my name so I get my stuff ready. Nope. He called some other guy's name. Then my 65 year old advisor comes out and calls my name. Great.

So, that's my day. Peace punch captain crunch.

Also, I'm kind of frustrated because I could've sworn on my life that I bought garlic&herb cheese (that's how it spelled: garlic&herb no spaces) but all that's in the fridge is original. That's not an awkward moment but that's what's on my mind right now because I specifically remember buying that damn cheese.

Hey Guys.

Hey Guys. What's up? I made a blog. I picked this background because its artsy and secretly I want to be an artsy hipster but I think I'm just too happy/ too in love with Legally Blonde.
Good news, the Cardinals are going to the world series. I don't really know what that means but apparently its a big deal.
Okay. So today's reflection: people.
Back story: I watched Into the Woods this weekend. It was amazing. But there's this one line from this one song and it goes, "sometimes people leave you/halfway through the wood/ others may deceive you/ you decide what's good/ you decide alone." http://youtu.be/r-3YJijA5Rw
So besides the fact that this line is cool and rhymatory, its also very true. Sometimes people totally screw you over and it sucks. Sometimes people are total assholes and you just want to sit them down and ask them, in all honesty, why they have to exist.
Here is the answer: they exist to make you feel miserable and to make you want to eat your weight in Twix.
Just kidding. (But I did do that last week.)
They exist to teach you a lesson and to help you grow as a person. That's the hardest thing to accept: that those people do not come in your life to give you a happily ever after (ever after...Into the Woods..get it?), but rather to bring you obstacles.
Recently someone told me "It will all work out in the end, and if it hasn't worked out, its not the end" or something to that extent. I disagree with this, though. There is not one be-all end-all moment where absolutely everything in life works out. I think a better quote for this kind of thing would be "Every moment of light and dark is a miracle." (Saw that on a calendar- doesn't discredit its awesome.) Shit happens, you grow from it, and you move on. There are moments where you sob in the car while listening to Taylor Swift (did that last week, too), and then there are moments where you laugh so hard it literally feels like you just got six-pack abs (did that today- just ask my roommate. She wasn't laughing, though. It was one of those had to be there things. Actually, she was there, she just didn't find the humor in it like I did, so there I was rolling on the floor laughing by myself. ANYWAY)

Just remember, look at life through the windshield, not the rearview mirror.

And when in doubt, tap dance.
